The Highway Loss Data Institute is a non-profit research organization funded by major auto insurers. The institute gathers, analyzes and publishes data on the ways in which insurance losses vary among different kinds of vehicles. Every year, the institute publishes a report which compares the theft rate losses for virtually every make and model sold in the U.S.
